LETTERS FROM A SOLDIER, scored for flute, percussion, violin, and cello, was inspired by a set of letters my grandfather, Harry Kramer, wrote to his parents while he was a pilot stationed in the Pacific during World War II. The work is in six short movements, each in a unique style and technique, representing a common topic found in the letters. The depiction is sometimes literal or programmatic and sometimes more subtle.
